The Robin Hood (Tobin) tax is a small tax (0.05%) on financial transactions. This has two big benefits. Firstly, it generates billions of euro's that can be used to fund global projects such as the millennium goals. Secondly, it can lead to a significant decline in high frequency speculative trading. This is automated trading done by computers in milliseconds based on mathematical rules. Since this type of trading is purely speculative but adds great volatility to the system it is something we can do without. All in all, a very good idea and the moment may just be right to implement it now.
